A glimmer of hope as social media helps reunite dogs with their owners

On Thursday, June 17, 2021 Vietnam’s animal lover community celebrated a small victory as police caught a group of dognappers red-handed. The officers of An Thoi Ward in Phu Quoc City were able to successfully rescue a total of eight dogs that had been kidnapped from surrounding homes. In an effort to track down their owners, the officers turned to social media. Successfully re-uniting some of the owners with their lost dogs; many who had suffered injuries to their bodies from the stun guns and their mouths being tightly wrapped with duct tape. Other residents who came in the hopes of finding their beloved pets (but who weren’t as lucky) left donations of food and milk for the remaining wounded dogs. Stories such as this give the animal lover community in Vietnam great hope for the future of humane treatment of animals.
