Honey's full story before she came to us is one we don't know in full. Another shelter we support found themselves in a very difficult situation and reached out for help. We stepped in and took the most vulnerable dogs they had, including a mum and her five puppies, and Honey.

What we can piece together from her behaviour tells us something about the life she has had. We believe she spent most of her time in a kennel, with limited interaction and little more than a couple of brief releases each day for exercise. No walking program, no real relationship with people, and not much of a chance to learn that humans could be trusted.

She arrived anxious, and in many ways she still is. She has settled beautifully into shelter life, sleeping on her own bed in the same room as our shelter manager and living comfortably alongside the other dogs. But she does not yet allow anyone to pet her, put a leash on her, or take her for a walk. And that is okay. Honey is not broken. She simply needs time, consistency, and someone who understands that building trust with a dog like her is not a project, it is a privilege.

Her coat, which looked rough when she first arrived, is now in wonderful condition. She is healthy, she is calm, and she is ready for the right person to come along.
