On July 22, 2024, the Saigon River had receded after a rainy spell, and our dogs at the shelter began barking at the fence. Curious, we looked over and spotted a small puppy, walking along the exposed riverbank, clearly disoriented and frightened as the tide began to rise again.

One of our team members slowly made their way down to the bank and spent time gently gaining the pup’s trust. Eventually, we were able to bring her to safety. We asked around the neighborhood and nearby compound to see if anyone had lost their puppy, but no one claimed her. To this day, we’re still unsure where she came from, but she somehow made her way to the perfect place - right when she needed it most.

We named her Delta, after the Mekong Delta and her riverside arrival, and what a little blessing she’s been since.

Since then, Delta has grown into a bright, affectionate, and easygoing young dog. She loves being around people, adores children, and has become a favorite among our volunteers for her playful spirit and cuddly nature. She’s small, sweet, and the perfect size for apartment living.

Delta does have a unique coat that tends to produce more dander than most dogs - much like human dandruff. A regular grooming routine with gentle baths and conditioner helps keep it under control, and she takes it all in stride. It’s just part of what makes her beautifully unique.
