May Happy Tails

May has been an exciting month at the shelter! With new arrivals, successful adoptions, and education/community events, there’s so much to share. Let’s take a look at what we’ve accomplished and what’s coming up in June.

New Arrivals

Three sisters, Lina, Mina and Rina came into the world only to face an immediate fight for survival. Their owner's dog had puppies, and when it became clear the family only wanted to keep the males, the girls were placed in a bag and left outside a neighbour's gate. After a kind woman contacted us about the girls, they were quickly moved to our shelter and from the moment they got there, they have brought nothing but joy to everyone around them.

Lina

Curious, playful, and sweet. Lina is the kind of puppy who wants to explore everything and be involved in whatever you are doing

Rina

Playful, spirited, and full of sass.
Rina brings big energy and an even bigger personality to everything she does.

Mina

Gentle, calm, and people-loving. Mina is the quiet heart of the trio, the one who will be happiest curled up close to the person she loves most.

Join the Care Collective

The Care Collective is the community of monthly supporters whose ongoing contributions provide the stability needed to sustain rescue, rehabilitation, and shelter operations at Laws for Paws Vietnam.

More puppies = more first vaccines, tick and flea, dewormer, and blood test panels.

Monthly support allows us to plan ahead, maintain consistent standards of care, and provide the long term care our dogs require. Your monthly support directly determines the level of care we can provide.

Education in Action

BIS Week Without Walls

Last week we had the pleasure of inviting the BIS Week Without Walls students to our shelter to get a hands-on understanding of what daily life is like in an animal rescue shelter.

Through guided activities, students learned about responsible animal care, teamwork, and the important role volunteers play in improving the lives of rescue dogs. Taking part in practical tasks that contribute directly to the wellbeing of the dogs, the students gained insight into animal welfare and rescue work in Vietnam.

Adoption Spotlights

Kelpie

  • For months, Kelpie spent her days chained outside a cafe, a young dog with no freedom to move, play, or simply be a dog. When we first became aware of her situation, she was still nursing puppies. We stepped in to give her a safe and warm space to care for them, helped find homes for the last of her litter, and continued to support her owner throughout.

Through patience and consistent effort, we were eventually able to convince her owner to let us take over her care and find her a home where she could truly thrive. From the moment Kelpie arrived at the shelter, the transformation was clear. She blossomed into a confident, happy, tail-wagging dog who lit up every time someone walked through the gate.

She was adopted by a wonderful family living in a beautiful area with an amazing dog park on their doorstep. Her human brother took a particular interest in her training and has done a brilliant job, turning Kelpie, now Goldie, into the perfect companion for the whole family. In their own words: "Goldie continues to be the perfect sweet addition to our family. She is so smart and lovely. We truly couldn't have asked for more."

Neither could we, Goldie. Neither could we.

Athena

  • Athena was found wandering alone near a construction site by Heather, a kind-hearted animal lover who has a soft spot for dogs in need. After asking around and finding no trace of an owner, Heather took her home, got her checked over, and then trusted her into our care.

Rescued young, Athena was spared so much of what street life holds for a female dog in this city: hunger, illness, the risk of the dog meat trade, and the cycle of endless pregnancies. And from everything she was saved from, she emerged as nothing short of the total package. Calm, funny, sweet, and endlessly friendly, she brought a gentle spark of joy to everyone she met at the shelter. Cuddles were her love language and people were her favourite thing in the world.

It wasn't long before the right family found her. A wonderful European family living in a beautiful compound gave Athena the safety and stability she had always deserved. She now has two human sisters who adore and spoil her without reservation, the cosiest bed, beautiful walks, and more love than she knows what to do with.

Honestly, this is everything we could ever hope for any of our pups. We are so happy for you, Athena.

Toby

  • Toby was found dragging himself along the street, helpless and in pain, until a kind woman in the neighbourhood saw him and simply couldn't walk past. She asked around but nobody claimed him. Living in a rented room that didn't allow dogs, she did everything she could before reaching out to us for help. We didn't hesitate.

Thanks to our friends at Forever Wheelchair, Toby was fitted with his very own custom wheelchair and quickly rediscovered the joy of going for walks. Whether his paralysis came from an accident or a pre-existing condition, we may never know for certain, but what was immediately clear was that it had done nothing to dampen his spirit. Aside from his paralysis, Toby is healthy, happy, and very much ready to roll into whatever comes next.

He found his perfect match in a family who already knew and loved the Dachshund breed, having a long-haired Dachshund of their own at home. The two are now the best of friends. His family work tirelessly to make sure Toby has the best diet, the right exercise, and all the love he needs to thrive. We get to see him out at events with his family from time to time, and every single time it is a joy. He is so happy, so loved, and so completely at home.

May Fundraiser

April brought 6 new puppies. May brought 3 more. And 4 adult dogs are waiting to join us at the shelter.

Here is what that means in real terms.

  • 18,000,000 VND in initial care for our puppies alone. Vaccines, bloodwork, parasite treatment. All needed from day one.

  • 26,000,000 VND for our incoming adults on top of our regular monthly costs.

80% of our goal has been raised! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far.
